The United Nations Association of Nigeria participates in this global day of celebration for women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. This International Women’s Day, March 8, 2024, UNAN joined the United Nations in commemorating under the subject Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress, which was hosted at the Archbishop Adebola and Mrs. Oluranti Christian Resource Centre (Faith Plaza), Bariga, Lagos.
On International Women’s Day 2024, a call to action is issued to invest in women’s and girls’ welfare, well-being, and empowerment in all aspects of daily life. This demand is especially important in Nigeria, where women are afflicted by the effects of several incidents and difficulties, both man-made and natural in origin, as discussed by the keynote speaker, Mrs Chinwe Ebele. She went on to say that by inspiring people to appreciate and cherish women’s inclusion, we can create a better society. When women are encouraged to be included, they experience a feeling of being accepted, worth, and empowerment.
The day also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality, in addition to the myriad socioeconomic disparities and environmental, health-care system, social, and behavioral variables that often impact the well-being of women, which were discussed by the event’s invited panelists.
The event was colorful, and it was widely attended by individuals from all walks of life.
The event also included the recognition, celebration and financial empowerment of twenty (20) Everyday Woman Heroes (EWH).
The President, Dr. Joan Agha, thanks everyone who participated, as well as the planning committee and the invited speakers. She also appreciates everyone who contributed to the (EWH) initiative.
