The United Nations as an international global organization that is ever committed to humanitarian affairs around the world, recognizes September 5th of every year as the International Day of Charity in commemoration of Mother Teresa of Calcutta who was honored with Nobel Peace Award by UN General Assembly.
The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNA-Nigeria) is proud to announce its participation in this year’s International Day of Charity. This year’s celebration aligns with UNA-Nigeria’s commitment to fostering culture of giving and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.
The International Day of Charity offers opportunity for the global solidarity with the poor and those in need anywhere. The call for Charitable actions permeate across all religions and cultures, thereby, instructs us all to be kind and merciful to one another.
The Day is designed and likened to the platform for Volunteerism and Philanthropic actions to eradicate extreme poverty and sufferings as experienced by people in different places. It provides practical and Socio-Economic bonding that contributes to the creation of possible inclusiveness and the process of attaining more resilient societies in the future. Charitable (love of God) actions in the situations of crises are well known to us all, even in the cross-cultural, traditional, and historical ways.
As a leading advocate for the United Nation’s ideals and goals in Nigeria, UNA-Nigeria has organized a series of events and initiatives to mark the Day. These activities will include:
Community Outreach Programs – Giving out food palliatives in three (3) communities as follows:
Lagos State: Okun Ajah Alpha Beach Community
Rivers State: Evo kingdom in Woji Community
F.C.T. – Abuja: Angwan Garogo Community
Awareness-raising advocacy – Creating awareness on charity through media outreach on Radio and Television in the three States.
The International Day of Charity is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a positive difference in the lives of others. UNA-Nigeria believes that everyone has the capacity to giveback, no matter how small or large. By working together, we can create a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for all.
UNA-Nigeria therefore invites the public to join them in celebrating the International Day of Charity and to participate in their upcoming events and initiatives.
