Engr. OWOLABI A. Ganiyu

Engr. Owolabi Ganiyu was born in Igboho, Orelope Local Government Area of
Oyo State.

He started his primary education from the Baptist School, Modeke, Igboho before
proceeding to Walewale in the Northern part of Ghana where he completed the
primary school and secondary education. He obtained the West African School
Certificate in June, 1970 from Ghana College, Tamale before returning to Nigeria
at the end of that year.

Engineer Owolabi started with a teaching position from 1971 to 1972 after which
he went to do HSC at the Ogbomoso Grammar School (1973-1974). As a stop gap,
he once again went into teaching Sciences at the Okeho-Iganna Grammar School
(Oyo State) in 1974 from where he gained admission to read Chemistry at the
University of Ibadan in 1975. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering
(Second Class Upper Degree) in Mechanical Engineering from the University in
June, 1979. He did the mandatory NYSC in Ondo State in 1979/1980.
His started his working career with the Thermocool Engineering Company
(Division of PZ), Ilupeju, Lagos as a Trainee Manager from where he moved in
February, 1981 to join the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as
Engineer II. He worked in the Corporation at various capacities and positions.
His working period in NNPC took him to all parts of Nigeria where PPMC Depots,
Pumpstations and pipelines are located. He also travelled to many parts of the
World – Argentina (South America), USA, UK, Italy, Singapore, South Korea,
UAE (Dubai). He worked as Maintenance Engineer, Project Engineer and Project
Leader at various times.

While in NAPIMS, he was in charge of the Mechanical Unit of JV Oil Facilities
and also became Chairman of the Cash Call Committee. Before retiring in
November 2013 Engr. Owolabi was the Manager in charge of the Eastern Operations of the Nigerian Gas Company Ltd, Port Harcourt overseeing operations
in Rivers, Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States supplying gas to various
Companies and Power Stations. Engr. Owolabi during his working life attended
several Technical and Management Courses in Nigeria and Overseas.
Engr. Ganiyu Owolabi has been a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers
(NSE) since 1988, member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and got
COREN Registration in 1992 allowing him to practice engineering in Nigeria.

Engr. Owolabi was elected at the Secretary General (S.G.) of the United Nations
Association of Nigeria in 2002 when Late Mr. Tunji Oseni was elected the
President. He worked in the position of S.G. until a new election was held in 2020
when he became an Ex-Officio member and was again re-elected to same position
in 2023. He singlehandedly steered the ship of the Association during the years and made sure it was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission
(CAC) in Nigeria in 2018.

Hobbies include travelling, socials and football. He is happily married and blessed
with Children (three of who are Engineers).
